Why Renounce Your Australian Citizenship?

What's covered in this section:

  • Why Citizenship sucks
  • Why renounce NOW
  • Australia's commitment to its Citizens
  • Citizens' rights
  • How do I know if I am an Australian Citizen?

Why Citizenship sucks

Citizenship is the illusion of a common bond between the people of Australia. It is a sham. You're much better off attempting to establish real relationships with people you know.

Why renounce now?

Why not? The nation's bounty is administered by a corrupt and inept political oligarchy who are significantly compromised by their devotion to local and international business interests. The executive branches of our State and Federal Governments seem to have convinced a gullible electorate that stable government requires much (far too much) of the democratic process to occur behind closed doors. And the public have been persuaded, through the media arms of the business lobby, to support their political masters in this perversion of the democratic process. Get out while you still can.

Australia's commitment to its Citizens

Australia makes no real commitment to its Citizens. Ask Hicks. Ask Habib. Ask yourself.

Nearly every one of your so called rights is subject to the whim of the various parliaments - which in practice means the whim of the leaders of the major political parties and those they favour and serve.

Citizens' rights

As an Australian Citizen, you apparently enjoy:

  • The right to vote to help elect Australia's governments (with exceptions);
  • The right to apply for any public office or to nominate for election to Parliament (subject to s44 (i) of the Australian Constitution);
  • The right to apply for an Australian passport and to leave and re-enter the country without a resident return visa;
  • The right to seek assistance from Australian diplomatic representatives while overseas; :)
  • The right to apply to enlist in the defence forces and for government jobs requiring Australian Citizenship; :( and
  • The right to register your child (under 18 years of age born overseas) as an Australian Citizen by descent.

Hardly worth getting out of bed in the morning to exercise that lot.

Where are the real guarantees against arbitrary government? They don't exist. Time to do something about that folks. Time for a new version of Australia perhaps?

How do I know if I'm an Australian Citizen?

You'll know you're an Australian citizen if you're not being held prisoner by the Australian subsidiary of a U.S. security firm somewhere in the Australian desert. Although that may change.

You'll also know you're an Australian citizen if you're not fired upon by our navy while attempting to land on our shores.

But the best way to tell is to look inside yourself and sense either (a) the guilt; or (b) the incredible sense of righteous anger that you feel whenever you are confronted with the suffering of others.
